Des Artistes is all about
Collaborations! Behind all things great is a bunch of other creative minds so we built upon this concept with Des Artistes. Every t-shirt is created in collaboration with an artist, so every tee comes with its own backstory, the artists inspirations and a peek into their psyche. The t-shirts label carries the artists name and our aim is to bring their art to a new audience.
And the inspiration behind it
Weve always been art lovers and fond of fashion and wanted to combine these two very intriguing worlds. The role of the t-shirt has evolved into an integral part of our wardrobe with so many functionalities. Its very neutral, making it the perfect canvas for creative expression. Our ongoing collaborations with an expansive circle of artists keeps things interesting the collection evolves into something new each season.
How we select our artist collaborations
Nowadays there are so many channels to discover new artists. The traditional gallery has shifted online, bringing art to the masses. I can get lost for hours browsing the art thats available just on Instagram! We look for artworks that obviously appeal to us at first glance. We also try to put together an interesting mix of genres in each collection.
Most exciting part about owning your own business
Getting to call the shots and making our vision a reality. I love that I can cultivate my creative side from the art Im exposed to every day.
And the most challenging
Calling the shots and having the confidence to run with a decision without second-guessing yourself. Ultimately, the responsibility lies 100% on my shoulders. Thats scary!
And how to overcome the above
Trust your instincts and believe in your vision. I always have to remind myself that every misstep along the way is a valuable lesson learned.
When starting a company, you must
Surround yourself with successful people whom you admire and pick their brains. Then find the courage and take that giant leap. And, of course, you need the support of family and friends.
And never be afraid to
Face rejection. Not everyone will be so keen on your idea. However, one can learn how to handle rejection and how to interpret these temporary setbacks. I try to see it as an opportunity to revise my plan, and perhaps taking an alternate route to my ultimate goal.
Best business advice received
Find people who are willing to listen. Network use your resources at hand. Seek advice, opinions, constructive criticism. Listen to and appreciate your customers.
Whats next
In addition to having an amazing line-up of new artists for Spring/Summer 2016, we are venturing into new territory, which we are excited to share with you very soon!
